The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, reiterated his support to the international efforts to achieve a peaceful and negotiated solution in Venezuela.
During his speech at a meeting of the Security Council on the prevention of conflicts, the head of the United Nations indicated that he is closely following the process initiated in Norway in order to foster a dialogue in the South American country.
For her part, the president of the UN General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa, also is closely following the development of the situation in Venezuela, as said her spokesperson, Monica Grayley.
Espinosa advocates for a constructive dialogue that will lead to an understanding between the parties and allows to advance in a political solution, just as the people of Venezuela need, said the spokesperson.
The UN expects compromises to be made between the parties, said the spokesman for the secretary general of the aforementioned body, Stéphane Dujarric, when referring to the talks in Oslo among the attending delegates.
The negotiations are the only way to find a peaceful solution to the situation in that South American country, stressed Dujarric at his usual press conference.
