Maduro: Leopoldo López was the one who directed the coup against the constitution

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced on Tuesday that Leopoldo López, leader of the Voluntad Popular terrorist group, was the one who was directing the coup against the constitution, “then he would be joined by the former deputy who is in contempt and legal nullity, Juan Guaidó”, he said.
In a joint radio and television broadcast, he explained to the country the events that occurred during the attempt of a coup d’etat, which was intended to be carried out by the Altamira highway distributor in the city of Caracas, in the vicinity of the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base, known as La Carlota.
In that sense, he denied what was intended to make believe the Venezuelan people through social networks and some media, that La Carlota had been taken by the coup plotters; “Right there ran the news that the Military Base of La Carlota was taken, but it never, never was taken”, he said.
He argued that the military bases of the country, including this one, “were on alert, loyal to the Revolution, to the Commander in Chief and the Constitution” and as the operations center of the officers to take care of their facilities and avoid damages like those that occurred in 2017.
The Head of State pointed out that about 80% of the officials who participated in the act and who pretended to assault the political power were taken to the place under deception. He also reported that during these events 8 officers were wounded by bullets – five soldiers and three police officers.
Finally, he called on the country to continue moving through the path of work, solidarity, construction and defense of peace, unity and democracy of the Republic.
