Legitimacy of President Maduro lies in the people's vote

“The swearing-in does not give legitimacy to President Nicolás Maduro”, since this is a simple protocol act to start a new constitutional period, in this case, of a re-elected president; the legitimacy lies in the electoral process of last May 20, 2018, in which he was elected with more than 6 million votes, said Constitutionalist lawyer Olga Álvarez.
While the international right wing has questioned the legitimacy of this new term of government, by considering that the mandate is a product of illegitimate elections, Alvarez recalled that Maduro was re-elected with about 70% of the valid popular votes in a process convened by the National Constituent Assembly and celebrated by the National Electoral Council:
“There is not a president of Latin America who has come to power with that amount of votes in his favor, it does not exist”, she said during her participation in the “Dando y Dando-Radio” (Taking and giving-Radio) program, broadcast by RNV Informative channel.
Regarding the accusations made by the current president of the National Assembly (AN) in contempt, Juan Guaidó, who assured that, of being sworn in next January 10, Maduro would be usurping the Presidency of the Republic, Álvarez clarified that precisely the AN incurred in usurpation of functions after having disowned the two sentences by the Electoral Chamber of the TSJ (Supreme Justice Court).
Regarding this, she recalled that on January 6, 2016 the board of the National Assembly, sworn in a void way to citizens Julio Haron Ygarza, Nirma Guarulla and Romel Guzamana, disowning the injunction to suspend the act of proclamation, issued by the (TSJ) Electoral Chamber, after determining vices in the election process of these candidates.
From that moment, she pointed out, the AN entered into contempt, therefore the current directive has no legal validity and none of its acts has any legal effect.
