Venezuela qualifies as cynical Pompeo’s statements on combined military exercises

The National Government described on Tuesday as cynical and disrespectful the statements by the US Secretary of State (USA), Mike Pompeo, about the Russian bombers Tu-160 aircraft carrying out combined military exercises in Venezuela:

“The reaction of Secretary Pompeo against military cooperation between Russia and Venezuela, is not only disrespectful, it is cynical: the US has at least 800 (known) military bases in 70 countries. Today, 75 of the 107 US programs for security cooperation operate in Latin America”, wrote the Chancellor of the Republic, Jorge Arreaza in his account on the Twitter social network.

The message of the Venezuelan high official is the response to Pompeo’s writing on Twitter where he questioned the Russian Air Force carrying out in Venezuela a bilateral exercise of operational flights, accused both governments of corrupt and described this military maneuver as a waste of public funds.

Given this, the Chancellor of the Republic described as unusual that the US government questioned our sovereign right to cooperation in defense and security with other countries, when Donald Trump publicly threatened us with a military intervention: “If you want to cooperate, lift your sanctions against Venezuela”, he wrote.

In another message, the senior official also said that if the US are so concerned about budget waste, its government should review its immense and unjustifiable military budget of more than $ 674 billion by 2019.

On Tuesday the Kremlin’s spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, labeled Pompeo’s statements as undiplomatic and absolutely inappropriate, while adding that the US with half of its defense budget would be able to feed the inhabitants of the entire African continent.

“3/3 If the US is so worried about waste, review its immense and unjustifiable military budget of more than $ 674 billion by 2019. Surely the 50 million poor and families without access to public health in the US can suggest fairer destinations for those funds”
