The National Electoral Council (CNE) guaranteed on Tuesday its full attachment to the agreement for coexistence and peace designed in the round tables held between the Government and the opposition in the Dominican Republic.
This was announced by the Chairwoman of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Tibisay Lucena, during a press conference in which she presented an assessment of the preparations for the presidential elections.
In her statement, the official explained that the document signed by the Government establishes guarantees for the Presidential electoral process to be held on April 22.
In the case of the Electoral Power, it is responsible for addressing six points: proposing to the General Secretariat of the United Nations Organization (UN) a delegation of electoral observation and accompaniment, as well as a representation of the countries that are signatories to the agreement; equity in access to media and social networks during the electoral campaign and reinstate voting centers affected by violent actions perpetrated in 2017.
“The CNE will continue to discuss all the guarantees that are necessary, as we have always done, to comply not only with the Santo Domingo agreement, but also with the guarantees that we always give to the electors and voters for each electoral process”, she said.
The document also contemplates the realization of the set of audits according to the criteria applied in the elections carried out between 2012 and 2015, the draw of the members of the table with the appropriate notification to them and the opening of a special day for the registration of new Voters residing in the country and abroad.
In this regard, the president of the Electoral Power said the draw for voters who will serve during the elections will be held on March 15 and the days of Electoral Registration (RE) activated in 530 points of the country for those over 18 years of age for the presidential elections will close on Tuesday in the country, and on February 25 abroad.
From the CNE headquarters in Caracas, Lucena stressed that compliance with the document designed in Dominican territory responds to a public policy of the State for peace and democracy, so the State, political parties and citizens are obliged to find the routes for the population to decide freely and sovereignly.
