ANC calls for presidential elections in the first four months of 2018

The Constituent, Diosdado Cabello, read a decree that establishes actions in defense of peace, sovereignty and freedom of independence of Venezuela where presidential elections are called before April 30 of this year.

“Considering that the opposition withdrew from the dialogue table alleging futile excuses, neglecting more than 400 calls made from the Head of State for a frank and productive dialogue in order to reach an agreement for peaceful coexistence in the country (…) is decreed to convene for the first four-month period of 2018 the electoral process for the election of the Presidency of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”, said Cabello.

He stressed that the article only calls for the process, it corresponds to the National Electoral Council to determine the day of the electoral party before April 30 of the current year.

He added that the measure responds to the constant onslaught of the United States of America and the European Union that have imposed illegitimate sanctions in violation of international law with a view to seeking a change of Government and the development model in Venezuela, affecting the progressive evolution of the state of Human Rights, inclusion, justice and equality.

“If the world wants to apply sanctions, then we will apply elections (…) this people has every right to decide its own destiny”, said Cabello.

The proposal was approved by an absolute majority of the constituents.
