More than 50 countries give support to Venezuela at the UN Human Rights Council

During the 36th ordinary session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva on Thursday, several interventions were carried out in support of the people of Venezuela by a group of signatory countries, as well as by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Americas (ALBA) and the ambassador of the country to the UN, Jorge Valero.

There were 57 countries that ascribed to the joint statement on the events that occurred in the country in recent months. The 13 points of the document called for respect for the sovereignty and independence of Venezuela.

“We condemn any action that disturbs peace, tranquility and democratic stability … and threatens its sovereignty, including recent threats against possible foreign intervention of a military nature,” said the document read by the Cuban ambassador to the Council , Pedro Luis Pedroso.

In the locution, the adherent nations asserted that “it is the Venezuelan people who are solely responsible for determining their future without external interference,” said the document, while recognizing that Venezuelan democracy promotes “development to consolidate peace and reaffirm the values of social justice. ”

Likewise, the signatories recognize the National Constituent Assembly as a promotor of “inclusive dialogue” through “mutual political recognition, unity, reconciliation and cooperation”, stating it as guarantor of “the full functioning of the democratic State.”

Nations, including Iraq, Russia, Cuba, China, Bolivia, Palestine, Syria, Libya, Ecuador, Vietnam, South Africa and Iran, among others, reiterated their support for the Constitutional Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in its commitment to preserve peace and maintain democratic institutions in the country”.

Also supporting the repeated calls of Nicolás Maduro “to the political dialogue” to “preserve the peace and guarantee the stability of democratic institutions”.

At the same time, they expressed their rejection of any international interference in the country’s internal affairs, considering them as “foreign, unilateral and illegal”, unveiled through “unilateral coercive measures imposed against the Venezuelan people”, as “a clear violation of the international law and human rights “since they” directly affect the people “, accusing them of seeking” a change of Government. ”

They also expressed their support for the calls for dialogue between the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina and the former President of Spain, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

At the journey, was also read the declaration of the ALBA peoples, a document that followed the same line in its demand for respect for the territorial integrity of Venezuela. Through the voice of Nicaraguan Ambassador Hernán Estrada, the organization made a repudiation of “the international media campaign” and condemned “the declarations of the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump,” on a “possible military action” as well as political, economic and financial sanctions against the country.

For his part, the Venezuelan representative to the Human Rights Council, Jorge Valero, welcomed the solidarity of the countries in these interventions and assured that “they have shipwrecked the attempts to end democracy”, proof of this is the National Constituent Assembly, because thanks to it “peace is reigning … and the Homeland of Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez has triumphed”, said the diplomat.

The 36th ordinary session of the Human Rights Council, which is currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland, began its dialogues on Monday, September 11, ending on Friday 29.

The support of the ALBA peoples and the 57 signatory countries of the declaration, come to reaffirm the solidarity support worldwide to the South American nation, which in recent weeks has received aggressions from the United States and other countries allied with the empire , which through interventionist comments, try to delay the democratic processes that are currently taking place in Venezuela, such as the next regional elections for October 15, an instance in which will participate both the parties of the opposition and chavismo.
