Opposition right wing was seeking to give a coup d’etat

Tarek William Saab, Attorney General of the Republic, assured this Sunday that the attacks carried out by the opposition right wing, sought to give a coup d’ etat, which would allow them to overthrow the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

He emphasized that the acts of violence registered in the country during the last months were coordinated in order to carry out the overthrowing of the Revolutionary Government, “something that they could not achieve, fortunately”, he said.

On the other hand, he stressed that on his arrival at the Public Prosecutor’s Office he found “A reality that surpasses fiction” because, in his opinion, the guarantor of providing justice and equity in Venezuela was degraded in a planned manner for years. “The former head of the institution in years turned it into a private company to commit crime in the name of justice … The former director of the office placed the Public Ministry as a cartel of illicit activities”, he said.

“In only four weeks that I have been in charge of the prosecution, I have had the task of placing under the custody of the courts to six prosecutors of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PM) who are detained for the crime of extortion, among them: assistant prosecutors, temporary assistant prosecutors, prosecutors who work in flagrante delicto, who even had as their competence the matter of corruption”, he emphasized.

Finally, he questioned the decision of the opposition leaders to “support” threats and sanctions by US President Donald Trump and said investigations were opened in this case. “We have appointed 2 prosecutors to investigate political leaders with their complete names, we cannot accept the massacre of the people as it happened in Syria, in Iraq and in many countries where the US is involved”.
