This week begins drafting of the new Constitution

The National Constituent Assembly (ANC) will begin this week the cycle of consultations and debates with various social sectors, to begin the drafting of the new Magna Carta of the country.

The fundamental text aims to preserve and perfect the political, economic, social and cultural system born with the Constitution of 1999, approved by popular vote.

In this regard, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, presented on August 10 to the ANC the proposal to reform and strengthen the Constitution that was born, in the heat of the debate with the people, 18 years ago.

“I, as I promised, wish to present to this great National Constituent Assembly my draft Constitution for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the project we approved in 1999, that is my project, that is our project, to perfect the pioneering Constitution of 1999”, said the Head of State in the Federal Legislative Palace, in Caracas.

To advance in that purpose, the plenipotentiary body will have 21 commissions. Of these, 10 will focus on the lines proposed by President Maduro for the debate: peace and public tranquility, as a need, yearning and right of the Nation; the National dialogue, mutual acknowledgement and understanding; and the perfection of the national economic system towards a post-oil one.

Also will be discussed the mechanisms to raise the Missions, Great Missions and new forms of participatory democracy to a Constitutional rank, as well as the transformation and improvement of the Justice System; The preservation of the political, economic and territorial sovereignty of Venezuela; The development of youth and the growth of Venezuelan women.

The text that emerges from this debate process will be submitted to a popular referendum for its approval, as established by the ANC’s statutes of operation.
