Venezuela rejects declarations of high representative of the European Union

The Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, rejected in a communiqué the statements made by the high representative for the European Union (EU) foreign policy, Federica Mogherini, who on behalf of the political community in which she figures has sought to interfere in the internal affairs and in the sovereign decisions of the Bolivarian Homeland and its people.

“They demonstrate once more the marked partiality of this organism towards a minority sector of the Venezuelan political opposition, as well as the total disowning of the expression of the great majorities that continue to decide the destiny of our country in a peaceful and democratic manner”, expresses part of the communiqué.

The Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the new statements of the spokeswoman of the High Representative and Vice President of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, expressed on August 7 on behalf of the EU Member States, which demonstrate once more the marked partiality of this organism towards a minority sector of the Venezuelan political opposition, as well as the total disowning of the expression of the great majorities that continue to decide the destiny of our country in a peaceful and democratic manner.

The European Union intends to believe that the decisions taken by the Sovereign Constituent National Assembly, installed and fully empowered to assume the constitutional role that it has been entrusted to and entrusted to it by a historic majority of the heroic Venezuelan people, will reduce the possibilities of “Democratic order”, when in reality, and this is a public and notorious fact, the effect of these decisions has indisputably been the opposite to this ominous prediction.

The European Union contradictorily speaks of respect for the legitimate institutions of our country and, on the other hand, omits and makes invisible the attempt of terrorist subversion and assault, which happened in the last hours in the Paramacay Barracks located in Carabobo state, which was controlled by the Bolivarian National Armed Forces immediately, as well as the rest of the terrorist acts that could find justification from declarations like the ones of the European Union that, far from contributing with Peace, end up encouraging and haranguing the more extreme factors of the opposition and justifying by action or omission the most violent actions of recent months.

We urge the EU and its leaders to get objectively informed about the situation in Venezuela and to recognize that a good part of the Venezuelan opposition has gone to register their candidates for the next regional elections scheduled by the Electoral Power, moving away from the extremist positions that in no way contributed to a rapid exit from our internal situation.

Given the differences that may exist in the exercise of our democracy, the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic provides for the most advanced mechanisms for the peaceful resolution of conflicts, in addition to specifying the firm proposal of the Venezuelan Government that, even in the most difficult moments, insists on dialogue as the only way to advance and overcome differences.

We reiterate our strict adherence to the principles of participatory and protagonist democracy, respect for Human Rights and the will to resolve any differences by convening once again the political actors for the great national dialogue.
