CNE alerts on disinformation campaign to hinder ANC election

The President of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Tibisay Lucena, warned about chains of messages that are intended to create confusion regarding the elections on July 30, when 537 of the 545 members of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) will be elected.

“Since last night and in the early hours of Thursday morning, we have received messages stating that are being broadcast false news through the social networks. We ask the voters to remain alert to what the CNE says, one might wonder if these messages seek to lead to confusion and the demobilization of voters”.

In a press conference offered with the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (CEOFANB), Lucena said thhere has circulated false information such as the alleged installation of polling stations in Plaza Caracas (Caracas Square), in the downtown of the Venezuelan capital city.

“We ask Venezuelans not to echo these chains of false messages with biased information that contribute in a compromised way to the confusion, dispersion and demobilization of people who want to vote on Sunday. We will opportunely keep reporting of each and every one of the opportunities to vote”, said Lucena, who said that a press conference will be held this Friday in order to explain again the security measures planned to exert the vote.

The Rector made a call to the population to visit the CNE website (www.cne.gob.ve), where a guide of the contingency measures planned for the electoral event is published. In addition, voters can check on this website if they will vote in a place other than the one that corresponds to them.
