The Mayor of Caracas, Jorge Rodríguez, said the Democratic Unity Board (MUD) is deceiving its supporters by calling for a plebiscite for July 16.
«They are calling for a lie for July 16, an alleged plebiscite, without being ruled by the public power body established in the Constitution, which is the Venezuelan Electoral Power. That is a crime, but it is also a lie; they are deceiving their own people again, and that generates frustration, and frustration generates rage, and rage generates violence», said the mayor, during his television program «La Política en el Diván» (Politics at the Divan).
Likewise, Rodríguez said that the measure is one of the new ways in which the MUD tries to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro.
«That pantomime they are calling for, is a coup d’etat that seeks to subvert the constitutional order of the Republic», said Rodriguez.
He also referred to the appearance made by the attorney general, Luisa Ortega Díaz, before the National Assembly, to request the appointment of Vice Prosecutor Rafael González.
«He is not a Vice Prosecutor, he is usurping a public position, according to the Criminal Code», he said.
