Representatives of the National Government and a sector of the Venezuelan opposition agreed to hold their first in-person meeting next week in Caracas, in order to establish a political dialogue process and to promote joint actions to assist the victims of the double earthquake that occurred last June 24.
The announcement was made through a communiqué signed by Jorge Rodríguez Gómez, in his capacity as coordinator of the dialogue for the National Government.
Rodríguez reported that he held a telephone conversation with Dinorah Figuera, representative of the opposition sector, to define the terms of the meeting and finalize the composition of the work delegations.
According to the official text, the agenda of the first in-person session will focus on three main points: assistance to the victims of the double earthquake, strengthening democracy, and establishing political rights and guarantees. It was also noted that the parties have set goals for the process.
The official delegation representing President Delcy Rodríguez’s administration will consist of six members and will be headed by Jorge Rodríguez. The delegation is completed by Ana María San Juan, Jorge Arreaza, América Pérez, Génesis Garvett, and Pedro Infante.
To date, both parties have manifested their willingness to maintain a work scheme with verifiable goals within the current social and political context.

“Today, in my capacity as coordinator of the dialogue for the National Government, I held a telephone call with Dr. Dinorah Figuera on her role as representative of a sector of the Venezuelan opposition, in order to initiate an inclusive and effective political dialogue process for the benefit of the country and all Venezuelans, and to join forces in assisting the victims of the double earthquake of last June 24.
In that conversation, we shared the composition of the work delegations and agreed to hold our first in-person meeting in Caracas next week. We have also established a work agenda with clear and verifiable goals.
The topics to be discussed in the first in-person session will be:
– Attention to the victims of the double earthquake
– Strengthening of democracy
– Political rights and guarantees
