The Presidential Commission for the Habitability Assessment of Infrastructure, chaired by Francisco Garcés, announced that the Venezuelan State will begin next week the repair phase for buildings damaged by the double earthquake of June 24.
The announcement was made after a meeting with governors and mayors of the affected states, where were defined unified technical criteria to guide the intervention.
Garcés explained that this first stage will address structures classified with a yellow label, which do not present structural damage and require repairs to non-structural elements and specific shoring.
Subsequently, will be advanced towards those buildings with a red label, which will undergo certification and complementary studies in order to determine the intervention procedures. These guidelines are part of the technical framework established by the National Technical Committee and the International Technical Committee.
The president of the Commission indicated that will also be published the criteria for repairing minor structural damage, and in a later phase, for more extensive damage.
He stated that municipalities will be authorized to receive repair proposals and notifications, and that it was agreed not to charge fees for requests submitted by affected families, guaranteeing technical support and transparency in the process.
Finally, Garcés affirmed that the advance towards this second phase of reconstruction involves the participation of regional governments, municipalities, universities, the Guild of Engineers, and the Ministry of Commerce. He emphasized that this collaborative effort will allow them to address the needs of the affected communities based on technical, safe criteria, and with a focus on the integral recovery of the territory.
