On Tuesday, September 29, the National Government presented a plan to address the challenges facing the National Electric System (SEN), with the incorporation of 1,300 megawatts (MW) during the final quarter of 2026.
Thus was announced by the Minister for Electric Energy, Rolando Alcalá, in the company of the president of Corpoelec, Juan Crisóstomo Fernández, who highlighted that the goal of this energy injection is to stabilize service and ensure a continuous supply throughout the entire country.
This measure is part of an integral strategy of maintenance, modernization, and reactivation of thermoelectric and hydroelectric units, which was announced by President Delcy Rodríguez, of which the primary objective is to stabilize the flow of electricity and reduce service interruptions.
The plan contemplates the restoration of thermoelectric and hydroelectric capacity through technical operations at various infrastructure sites across the country: Planta Centro will contribute 600 megawatts and Termozulia will add 450 megawatts. The Guanta and Rafael Urdaneta plants will bolster local generation.
With these actions, the ministry aims to strengthen the SEN, which recorded a historic consumption peak driven by rising demand due to high temperatures associated with the «Super Niño» climate phenomenon.
