A delegation from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, led by the Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Nabil Abdul Khalek, is participating in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
The event takes place in the United Arab Emirates from September 26 to October 1, under the theme: «Accelerating crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law; protecting people and the planet; and fulfilling the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the digital age.»
The Venezuelan delegation also includes representatives from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as well as diplomatic staff from the embassy in the host country and from Venezuela’s Permanent Mission to International Organizations based in Vienna.
Official Declaration on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice:
During the presentation of the national declaration, Ambassador Abdul Khalek thanked the host country and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for organizing the gathering.
He highlighted that in Venezuela there is a conviction on that crime prevention should not be limited to the State’s penal response but must be built upon citizen participation. In this regard, the diplomat emphasized the implementation of public policies focused on strengthening a culture of legality, equal access to justice, peaceful coexistence, social inclusion, and priority attention for vulnerable groups.
Likewise, he emphasized that digital transformation should be viewed as a tool to enhance the criminal justice system and effectively combat criminal organizations, ensuring a modern and secure environment. To conclude its presentation at the United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the delegation reaffirmed Venezuela’s readiness to continue collaborating with the international community through constructive dialogue, respect for international law, technical assistance, and the exchange of best practices.
«May this 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice mark a new step forward in building a more just, secure, and cooperative international order, where crime prevention and justice are inseparable pillars of sustainable development,» the ambassador concluded.
