Magnitude and frequency of seismic aftershocks in the country is gradually decreasing

The President of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, reported that seismic activity in the country has registered a total of 782 aftershocks since last June 24, when it was detected the double earthquake in the national territory.

During an official balance following the seismic emergency, he indicated that this represents a favorable trend toward stabilization, characterized by a progressive decrease in both the frequency and intensity of the aftershocks.

Rodríguez explained that, while the current trend is favorable, it is fundamental to keep the population fully informed about the terrain’s behavior. «It is important to tell the public that today this stabilization process continues. Today we have a lesser presence in the apparition of aftershocks, and their magnitude range has also decreased,» he explained.

Likewise, he clarified that this behavior responds to the natural course of the geological phenomenon, which tends to occur less frequently and to lose intensity in a gradual manner.

However, Rodríguez made a call to caution and to remain in vigilance: «That doesn’t mean the threat of a larger aftershock has completely disappeared,» he detailed.
