Government activates work groups to reform the Law on Drugs for the 2026-2031 plan

The National Executive Branch has activated a series of technical work groups aimed at gathering proposals for reforming the Organic Law on Drugs. The central objective of this initiative is to adapt the legal framework to the country’s new operational realities.

This effort is part of the design and implementation of the 2026-2031 National Anti-Drug Plan, according to information provided by the National Anti-Drug Superintendent and Vice Minister of the System of Criminal Investigation, Danny Ferrer Sandrea.

The official emphasized that this is a collaborative effort to strengthen the acting of the Venezuelan State to challenges in citizen security, which guarantees legal tools for investigative agencies and prosecutors before the courts.

The consultation sessions progressed with the establishment of specific technical work groups for each area. In the health sector, the debate was led by Amira Beiruti Castillo, legal advisor to the National Anti-Drug Superintendency (Sunad), and Berlena González, Director General of Strategic Analysis and Advanced Studies on Drugs, along with representatives from the Autonomous Health Control Service (SACS).

During these meetings, authorities and experts evaluated key points such as: new nomenclatures, unified criteria, and legal firmness.

The law reform process also includes the strengthening of integral prevention through educational and community programs.

Furthermore, the technical work groups raised the need to advance towards the digital transformation of the institutions involved. For this, it was proposed the development of automated systems in order to generate real-time reports, to optimize the transparency and efficiency of controls in each entity.
