COMMUNIQUÉ:
The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, in the city of Quito in the framework of the Habitat III World Conference.
President Maduro ratified to Secretary Ban Ki-moon the request made personally in July 2015, to continue the existing mechanism of the Good Offices in resolving the territorial dispute over the Guyana Essequibo.
The Geneva Agreement of February 17, 1966, an instrument in force for solving this territorial dispute, orders in its preamble that it should be settled amicably in a manner acceptable to both parties. The immediate legal consequence has always been the exclusion to a solution based in a jurisdictional court.
Similarly, to address this territorial dispute is strictly relevant the use of the political and diplomatic means for the peaceful resolution of conflict, used in a successive manner.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon took the opportunity to bid farewell to President Nicolas Maduro, who in turn, wished him every success in his new endeavors.
