The President of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro, informed on Wednesday that he requested the Attorney General of the Republic to evaluate the legal mechanisms in order to lift the immunity of public officials, including that of the deputies to the National Assembly, under the Economic Emergency Act and State of Emergency.
«Parliamentary immunity was not created to violate the constitution or to commit crimes and then ask, by chance, for a foreign intervention; immunity is for (exerting) their roles as parliamentarians, not to move money, to pay criminals», stressed the Head of State during a meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Miraflores Palace.
In this regard, he said that he has requested to get prepared this decree as soon as possible. «I will defend the country, the democracy, and I will not allow more threats of a coup d’ etat, I ask the people not to leave me alone in this battle, we will fight against the injustices».
