The majority of member countries of the Council for Human Rights of the United Nations, as evidenced by a statement in support of Venezuela, expressed their “categorical” support to the Constitutional Government of President Nicolas Maduro, in its commitment to preserve peace in the country.
The announcement was made during a contact with the “El Desayuno” (The Breakfast) program, broadcast by Venezolana de Television, from the Palais des Missions, in Geneva, by Jorge Valero, Venezuela’s ambassador to the United Nations, who reported that this Wednesday was met the period for issuing the declaration in support of the Bolivarian Revolution.
In the document, read by Valero, the countries demand full respect for the Venezuelan sovereignty, considering that dialogue is the best alternative to resolve political differences.
The Human Rights Council expressed its support for the initiatives promoted by the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), with the mediation of former presidents Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero of Spain, Leonel Fernandez, of the Dominican Republic, and Martin Torrijos, of Panama.
Referring to the request for activation of the Democratic Charter of the OAS, promoted by the Secretary General of the organization, Luis Almagro, the nations “encourage the authorities of multilateral and regional organizations to carry out their functions with due adherence to the principles of independence, impartiality, transparency and non-interference “.
Valero said that rarely such a large bloc of countries expresses its support for Venezuela in a moment when is tried to stigmatize the Bolivarian Revolution and to use the Democratic Charter to intervene in its internal affairs.
