The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its strongest rejection of the policy of unilateral coercive measures imposed by the European Union (EU), by considering them illegitimate, illegal, and contrary to International Law, as well as the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.
In an official statement issued by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs and subscribed by the Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, the Venezuelan government denounced that «the leaders of that bloc have unfortunately chosen to accelerate their own political decline.»
The official text also states that the EU «insists on a line of sterile hostility against Venezuela, which demonstrates an erratic foreign policy, lacking autonomy and subordinated to interests foreign to the peoples they claim to represent.»
Venezuela emphasizes that, after years of implementation, this sanctions policy has proven to be a resounding failure. Far from achieving its stated objectives, it has significantly damaged political and diplomatic relations and confirms «the growing irrelevance of the European Union as an international actor capable of acting with independence, rationality, and with respect for sovereign states.»
The National Government reiterates its call for respectful dialogue and peace diplomacy, based on the sovereign equality of states and strict adherence to the international state of law.
Following, the communiqué:
“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the policy of sanctions and coercive measures imposed by the European Union, for being illegitimate, illegal and contrary to the International State of Law, as well as the principles and purposes consecrated in the Charter of the United Nations.
