The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela informs the national and international community that, effective immediately, it decrees the termination of all contracts, agreements, or negotiations related to the supply of natural gas to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The statement, shared by the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, indicated that this sovereign and irrevocable decision is made in response to the proven complicity of the government of Trinidad and Tobago in an act of theft and international piracy against Venezuela’s energy resources. Irrefutable facts demonstrate the participation of that nation in the assault and illegal diversion of a ship loaded with Venezuelan oil, perpetrated by the US administration last December 10.
This outrage constitutes a grave violation of international law, a transgression of the principles of free navigation and trade, and a direct attack on the economic interests and sovereignty of the Venezuelan people.
The Government of Venezuela has documented and denounces the hostile agenda against our nation, actively promoted by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar. This agenda includes the installation of US military radars on Trinidadian territory with the purpose of harassing and attacking ships transporting Venezuelan resources, turning our sisterly nation into a platform for operations against Venezuela, in an unacceptable act of submission.
Faced with this situation, the Bolivarian Government is compelled to take decisive measures to defend the integrity of its natural resources and its patrimony. Venezuela reaffirms its willingness to engage in respectful dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation with all nations of the world, provided it is based on unrestricted respect for sovereignty, international law, and justice.
Following, the commniqué:
“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reports that it has received full information regarding the participation of the government of Trinidad and Tobago in the theft of Venezuelan oil, perpetrated by the US administration last December 10th with the attack on a vessel transporting this strategic Venezuelan commodity. This act of piracy constitutes a grave violation of international law and a blatant transgression of the principles of free navigation and trade.
The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has revealed a hostile agenda against Venezuela since taking office, including the installation of US military radars to target vessels transporting Venezuelan oil. This official has turned the territory of Trinidad and Tobago into a US aircraft carrier to attack Venezuela, in an unequivocal act of subservience.
In response to this escalation of hostilities and serious aggression, President Nicolás Maduro Moros proceeded, at the time, to denounce the Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation signed with Trinidad and Tobago.
Today, in the face of this extremely serious act that blatantly seeks to steal Venezuela’s oil, the Venezuelan government has decided to immediately terminate any contract, agreement, or negotiation for the supply of natural gas to that country.
Venezuela demands respect! And it will not allow any colonial entity and its vassals to threaten the sacred sovereignty of the country and its right to development. Venezuela will always prevail”.
