Venezuela participated in Regional CELAC Ministers Forum to strengthen fight against gender violence

The Venezuelan delegation, led by Jhoanna Carrillo, Minister of People’s Power for Women and Gender Equality, participated in the Regional Forum of Ministers for Women of CELAC: “For a Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Violence against Women”, held in Honduras.

During her speech at the “Joint Strategic Proposals to Combat Violence from Physical and Political Autonomy” panel, Minister Carrillo highlighted the importance of recognizing the current international context, marked by the persistent effects of the pandemic, climate change and unilateral coercive measures.

Carrillo highlighted the creation of the Great Mission Women Venezuela (GMVM), which was promoted by President Nicolás Maduro, to mainstream gender policy in all State institutions.

She pointed out that the GMVM was based on a survey carried out through the Patria System, which allowed for the characterization of more than 7 million Venezuelan women and the understanding of their needs and interests: «Based on this information, the Strategic Plan for the Comprehensive Development of Women was created, which is executed in seven vertices”.

She highlighted the strengthening of justice from the territorial organization, with the participation of communal defenders, judges and justices of the peace and police officers specialized in women’s care and pointed out the importance of economic empowerment, through financing and training programs for entrepreneurs, through the third vertex of the GMVM.

To conclude her speech, Minister Carrillo proposed the creation of the digital magazine of Women for Celac and the Leadership School for Women of Celac, with the aim of making achievements visible and strengthening their leadership capacities.
