New defeat in the OAS: USA does not get the votes to sanction Venezuela

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, rejected on Tuesday the resolution discussed at the Organization of American States (OAS), which aims to encourage the suspension of Venezuela.

The resolution proposed by the United States to suspend Venezuela from the OAS, needed at least 24 votes, however, they only obtained 19 in favor, 4 against and 11 abstentions.

“Venezuela as you know has already voluntarily retired from this organization, because this body does not help at all to the peoples of the Americas, and rather what it does is to create conditions for interventionism, interference, to violate public international and even military law against the peoples of the Americas”, said Arreaza from the 48th plenary of this organization.

In that sense, Arreaza emphasized that: “Venezuela absolutely rejects the decisions that have been taken today by those 19 countries and we guarantee that we go with our people to face our difficulties and among Venezuelans we will solve our problems without their interventionism and meddling making a single dent in our country. Venezuela is free and sovereign”.

He added that those who have approved this resolution are also supporting the possibility of a military intervention in Venezuela.

He stressed that if the US intention is to help the Venezuelan people, economic sanctions against the country and the financial blockade must cease.

“Do lift the sanctions, unblock the funds of Venezuela, not this you are doing, of sanctioning and more sanctioning”, he exhorted.
