MP requests arrest warrants against those involved in the murder of Orlando Figuera

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported that the body requested arrest warrants against Enzo Franchini, Ángel Daniel Sucre Cova; Kleiver José Hernández; Yuber Enrique Rodríguez Villa and Elio Enrique Carrasquel Azócar for the murder of Orlando Figuera.

The Attorney General recalled that amidst the civil war embryo of 2017, “Figuera was passing peacefully through Altamira. He was seen by protesters of a violent nature who used firearms to commit criminal acts.”

In that sense, Saab highlighted having had the opportunity to talk with Orlando Figuera’s mother as soon as he had taken office in the Attorney General’s Office; and sent prosecutors to interview the relatives. He stated that the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has requested the King of Spain and the authorities to do what is necessary to make the murderer Enzo Franchini pay for what he did to Orlando Figuera.

Orlando Figuera was accused of “infiltrating” for wearing a red shirt. The then Attorney General of the Republic said at the time that he had stolen a cell phone and that was why he was burned. “He was agonizing since May 20 and died on June 3, 2017.”

That is why the Public Ministry requested the arrest of Enzo Franchini, in October 2017, for alleged public instigation, qualified intentional homicide and terrorism. On July 10, 2019, Franchini was arrested in Spain, due to the red alert requested by this Public Ministry. On July 15, 2019, the Criminal Cassation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, through Sentence No. 155, declared the approval of the Active Extradition Request of Enzo Franchini.

After several procedures, on June 5, 2020, the Plenary Session of the Criminal Chamber of the National Court of the Kingdom of Spain, through an Order issued by the First Section, declared the extradition of Enzo Franchini to Venezuela admissible through judicial means. However, «the excuse for denying the extradition of Enzo Franchini to the country is that his human rights could be violated.»

To give a boost to this case, he was appointed to the 61st National Prosecutor’s Office, which after an exhaustive review of the case determined that prior to the incident, the victim had had previous problems with Ángel Sucre, a.k.a. “El Chino”; Kleiver Hernández, a.k.a. “El Peca”, Yuber Rodríguez, a.k.a. “El Mono” and Elio Carrasquel, a.k.a. “El Carrasquerito”.

With this underway, we hope that there will be a moment of reflection among the political and criminal authorities in Spain,” said the Attorney General.
