The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, assured that “Guyana has no other alternative than to sit down with Venezuela” to resolve the conflict with the Essequibo in accordance with the Geneva Agreement.
“Going to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is a lying illusion, it is an erratic step pushed by ExxonMobil, the Southern Command and the United States (USA) and the only thing left for Guyana is to sit down and begin peace negotiations and resolve, through dialogue, this controversy with the Essequibo,” he expressed during the development of his “Con Maduro+” program number 40, held at Miraflores Palace in Caracas.
The President spoke by telephone with the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, who submitted this Monday before the ICJ the documents that reflect the truth of Venezuela regarding the Essequibo:
“The nation has brought before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) the historical, legal and moral evidence that demonstrates Venezuela’s ownership of the territory of Guayana Esequiba. Venezuela is defending its truth, a solid, historical truth. We are not taking anything from anyone, we are recovering from fraud and dispossession. We have the historical reason, we have the documents, which today were recorded and officially delivered,” said Maduro.
“Guyana was born after the Geneva Agreement, which is a starting point that leaves everything else behind, the fraudulent, invalid and void Paris Award; and the Geneva agreement recognizes that there is a controversy to be resolved, and our people understood it with a clarity unique in history,” he said.
“Venezuela today presented all the documentation, the maps from 1777 and before, until now,” highlighted the president.
