President AN delivers Organic Law for the Defense of Essequibo to the Head of State

“We are therefore delivering today, Mr. President of the Republic, the Law that has already been established its constitutionality by the Supreme Court of Justice and sanctioned by the National Assembly for the purposes of you being in charge of the promulgation so that the aforementioned law comes into force”, said the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, when offering the first words of the official act where the constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, will promulgate the unprecedented Organic Law for the Defense of Essequibo.

From the Federal Legislative Palace, in Caracas, and accompanied by the First Combatant woman, Cilia Flores, and other civil, religious and military authorities, the head of State was welcomed by the board of the National Assembly (AN) and heads of the other Public Branches, in the Elliptical Hall, where the protocol acts took place before the investiture of the National President.

Deputy Rodríguez, after greeting the presidential couple and the high authorities of the Venezuelan State, said that in the room where the new and historic law is promulgated, “is deposited the act that ruled our independence forever.”

The parliamentarian said that, after hundreds of consultations with all sectors of the country, after the historic consultative referendum of December 3, 2023, the entire content of the Organic Law Project for the Defense of Essequibo was supported. He recalled that on December 3, more than 10 million Venezuelans voted “Yes” 5 times for Venezuela’s rights over the Essequibo and, just 3 days later, the Parliament approved the first discussion of the project presented by the National President, and the public discussion began:

With the consultation, the support of a bill was achieved, strong enough for it to be approved and was sanctioned by the AN on March 21, 2024,” recalled Rodríguez. The rule was sent to the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to determine its constitutional and organic nature, and the highest court ruled so.
