The National Assembly (AN) commemorated the International Day of Afro-descendants, and through a legislative agreement approved to designate August 31 as the National Afro-descendants Day.
The agreement was proposed by Demetria Monasterio Vásquez, who explained that this act recognizes the struggle of all Venezuelan Afro-descendants, and urges the study to eradicate all forms of racial discrimination.
It was on December 28, 2020 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution to proclaim August 31 as the International Day of People of African Descent.
