Diplomat Alex Saab returns to Venezuela after his release

After more than 1,280 days of unjust kidnapping in a US detention center, Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab landed this Wednesday at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, located in La Guaira state.

With a heartfelt hug, he was welcomed by the first combatant woman and deputy of the National Assembly, Cilia Flores de Maduro, who is accompanied by the diplomat’s family nucleus led by the Human Rights activist, Camila Fabri de Saab.

Previously, through the Communiqué For the victory of the truth and the dignity of Venezuela, the National Government expressed its joy for the release and return to the Homeland of Simón Bolívar of the Venezuelan diplomat:

The people welcomes him with pride after having suffered three and a half years of illegal detention under cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, violating his human rights and the Vienna Convention that confers him diplomatic immunity,” reads the document.

The release of Alex Saab “is a symbol of victory for Bolivarian Diplomacy and the thousands of demonstrations of solidarity expressed from all corners of the world by social movements, intellectuals, artists and other fighters for justice.”
