President Maduro rejects pretenses to turn Guyana into a branch of ExxonMobil

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, pointed out this Saturday that the government of Guyana, “in its eagerness to please powerful transnational interests, is turning Guyana into a branch of ExxonMobil.”

Through his account on the X social network, the Head of State, addressing the President of Guyana, manifested: “Enough of lies and of trying to hide the historical truth that weighs over the controversy for the Essequibo territory, of which the only way to solution is the Geneva Agreement of 1966.”

Enough of irresponsibility, manipulation, doublespeak, hypocrisy and false victimization. In its desire to please powerful transnational interests, it is turning Guyana into a branch of ExxonMobil.”

President Irfaan Ali, enough of lies and of trying to hide the historical truth that weighs on the dispute over the Essequibo territory, whose only means of resolution, as you well know, is the Geneva Agreement of 1966.

Likewise, President Maduro proposed to his counterpart to resume the Geneva Agreement:

The steps being taken by your government violate international legality and put the peace of the region at risk. If your interest in Peace is genuine and sincere, I propose a meeting promoted by CARICOM to resume the 1966 Geneva Agreement.”

Maduro urged President Irfaan “not to allow ExxonMobil, through its improper interests, to lead Guyana to the escalation of a conflict. He does not allow the Southern Command to turn his country into a military base against Bolívar’s Venezuela.”
