The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted the unity in love, brotherhood and conviction among the peoples of the Great Homeland on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the meeting between the Liberator Simón Bolívar and General José de San Martín:
“200 years after the historic meeting between Father Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín, we honor their struggle and the sacrifices they made for the freedom of America. We are united by love, brotherhood and conviction for the integrationist dreams of the Great Homeland”, expressed the national president, through his account on the Twitter social network.
On July 26, 1822, in the city of Guayaquil, Argentinean General José Francisco de San Martín and the Venezuelan Liberator Simón Bolívar held a meeting whose fundamental purpose was South American independence.
During their meeting, the generals signed an agreement that remained hidden for many years. However, in 2013 it became known that the pact focused on defining the geopolitical future of the Latin American region.
That is why the date has great historical, social and cultural relevance for Argentina and Venezuela, nations that recently resumed diplomatic relations.
