The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Bolivarian people and Government, welcomes the ratification of the Government of Nicaragua of resigning from the Organization of American States (OAS), stated on November 19, 2021, and its decision to immediately abandon its participation in the Committees, the Permanent Council, the Summit of the Americas, and any other space belonging to this filibustering international body.

In its action against Nicaragua, the OAS reiterated its historical role as an instrument of US imperialism, to attack the sovereign will of its people, attack its security and national interest, thereby repeatedly violating all the principles of peaceful coexistence enshrined in International Law, the Charter of the United Nations, and even its own founding Charter. Nicaragua acts as a result of the historic struggle of resistance carried out by its people, in defense of its sovereignty, independence and national dignity.

Consequently, the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela accompanies this firm, legitimate and courageous decision of the Government of Nicaragua, and ratifies its will to build a true democratic multilateralism that promotes Peace, Respect for self-determination, and sincere Cooperation in the search for of Social Justice and Common Welfare.

Venezuela urges the countries of the Latin American and Caribbean region to ratify their conviction of Peace and Non-Interference in the internal affairs of other countries, principles enshrined in so many international instruments, and decisively calls on them to strengthen their participation in the Community of States Latin American and Caribbean (CELAC), as a genuine space of the necessary Unity in our Continent”.

The statement expresses that Venezuela accompanies this firm, legitimate and courageous decision of the Government of Nicaragua and ratifies its will to build a true democratic multilateralism, which promotes Peace, Respect for self-determination.

The Nicaraguan government announced its disassociation from the OAS on November 19, 2021, when the Nicaraguan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Denis Moncada, said that his country was making the unwavering decision and invoking article 143 of the OAS Charter, a procedure called denouncing the Charter. The action was taken after the manifestation of interventionist actions by the organization to try to interfere in the decisions that concern the Nicaraguan people.
