NAM Summit: Venezuela defends the establishment of a new just world order that strengthens multilateralism

During his speech at the Summit of member countries of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM), the Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Félix Plasencia, called on the peoples of the world to defend the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, in order to promote, preserve and strengthen multilateralism.

Within the framework of the High Level Commemorative Meeting of NAM, Plasencia urged the member countries of the group to make a common front against the attempts of some governments that seek to establish dangerous practices contrary to international legality “and that disown the sovereign will of our peoples”.

Before the world forum, he affirmed that “it is necessary the establishment of a new just and equitable world order in which all nations are seen as equal, allowing us to exploit our potential in order to enhance the development of our peoples”, he stressed.

He recalled that since its creation, the Non-Aligned Countries Movement “has been called to serve as a counterweight against hegemonic, colonial and imperialist interests”, he urged to intensify the promotion of a multilateral vision in the world, in view of the “powerful resurgence of the unilateralism”.

In this sense, he rejected the illegal and lethal Unilateral Coercive Measures, which, as he indicated, exacerbate the difficulties and undermine efforts to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Faced with this situation, he urged to combat this cruel and inhuman policy in all multilateral instances, including in those governments that take advantage of the pandemic to advance political agendas such as the one applied against Venezuela from Washington and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). which denies – for political reasons – access to special drawing rights and international reserve assets.

Peace and respect for life:

He added in another part of his intervention that NAM’s commitment is valid to advance in the consolidation of peace and respect for life and the self-determination of the peoples.

He concluded that in the field of decolonization “much remains still to be done, especially to achieve solutions to long-standing armed conflicts, including situations of foreign domination and occupation that still persist in the world today”.

On Twitter was broadcast the intervention of the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the General Debate of the High Level NAM Commemorative Meeting:
