CNE declares in permanent session for the 2020 elections of the National Assembly

The National Electoral Council (CNE) approved this Friday to declare in permanent session to organize the convening of parliamentary elections, which must be held this year as established by the Constitution.

The vote was unanimous among the rectors that make up the Electoral Power.

According to a press release, the decision adjusts to what is established in article No. 7 of the rules on the regime of sessions and deliberations of the electoral body, and the provisions of sentence 068, dated June 5, 2020, dictated by the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), in which the electoral institution is instructed to convene for the parliamentary elections.

On June 12, the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ appointed the principal and alternate rectors of the National Electoral Council, after declaring the unconstitutional omission of the National Assembly in contempt of the appointment of the members of the highest electoral body.
