41,993 Venezuelans have returned to the country amidst the pandemic

A total of 41,993 people have returned to Venezuela, through the border with Colombia and Brazil, as well as through the flights of the Vuelta a la Patria (Return to the Homeland) Plan; amidst the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, as reported the Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez.

Of the total figure – as explained Rodríguez – a total of 24,542 entered the country through the border in Táchira state, 10,275 through Apure state, 4,753 returned through Zulia state and 109 through Amazonas state.

For their part, 300 people have entered through the Vuelta a la Patria Plan flights, an operation deployed by the National Executive so that Venezuelans who are abroad and are victims of xenophobia can return to the nation for free.

In statements from Miraflores Palace in Caracas; the Executive Vice President detailed that 40% of the nationals who returned on May 8 from Peru, through the Vuelta a la Patria Plan are infected:

“A 40% of the (passengers in the) flight that arrived on May 8 with compatriots from Peru arrived infected. We are screening that entire flight”, emphasized Rodríguez, while detailing the health crisis that is registered in this South American nation, which already has 94,933 infected by coronavirus, with 2,789 deaths and 30,306 recovered.

In this regard, she noted that 83% of the cases confirmed this Monday are imported cases. Venezuela confirmed 77 new Covid-19 coronavirus cases, and raised the number of those infected by the outbreak to 618.

Of the total number of cases confirmed this Monday, 64 are imported: 47 are coming from Colombia, four from Brazil, eight from Ecuador and five from Peru. Similarly, five cases with international contact and eight cases of community transmission were registered today.

On the other hand, Venezuela, until this Monday, has carried out a total of 581,082 tests for coronavirus screening, which is equivalent to 19,369 tests per million inhabitants.
