The National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela appointed and swore in the rectors and the main and alternate rectors of the National Electoral Council.

In the special session, held this Tuesday, May 4, 2021, the deputies of the National Parliament elected the five main and the 10 alternate rectors, who will serve for a 7 years term.

By the civil society, the following were selected as main rectors: Alexis Corredor Pérez, Tania D ’Amelio Cardiet and Enrique Márquez, by the Citizen Power: Pedro Calzadilla, and by the universities: Roberto Picón.

The alternate rectors will be: Carlos Enrique Quintero Cuevas, Francisco Garcés, Leonel Enríquez Parica Hernández, Rafael Simón Chacón Guzmán, Griselda Benites, Francisco José Martínez García, Gustavo Adolfo Vizcaino, Saúl Bernal Peña, Conrado Ramón Pérez Briceño and León Antonio Anuel.

The National Assembly approved the appointment of the authorities of the electoral body by a qualified majority and during the same session they were sworn in, this means that the parliament fulfilled the responsibility imposed by the Constitution of the Republic.

Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly, declared with the Constitution in hand: “in this Constitution and only in this Constitution, are the solutions to controversies, differences and obstacles that are expressed in the public life of the country”, he said.
