Incorporation of the Militia into the FANB will consolidate the nation’s integral defense

The Minister for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, stressed that on Tuesday the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) welcomed the Bolivarian Militia as a military component, to consolidate the nation’s integral defense:

«With this sovereign act we have just demolished the wall built with the old rests that tried to prevent the consolidation of the cornerstone of the civic-military union», he said at the Cuartel de la Montaña (Mountain Barracks), in the 23 de Enero parish, in Caracas, where a special event took place in honor of the civic-military rebellion of February 4, 1992 and in celebration of National Dignity Day.

It should be noted that on January 29, the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) approved the Constitutional Law of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), to strengthen the country’s security system.

It was up to the president of the ANC, Diosdado Cabello, to deliver this Tuesday the legal instrument to the president of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, during the special ceremony that took place at the Mountain Barracks.

That is why, Minister Padrino López said that by granting constitutional status to this law, «the doctrinal concept of the integral defense of the nation is completed», when the Militia was incorporated as a special component, along with the Army, Navy, Aviation and National Guard.

«The genesis of this component has as a special date on April 13, 2002, when the people took to the streets to defend their sovereign power, and in fruitful union with the National Armed Forces, managed to restore the constitutional thread and bring back Commander Chavez to his command post in the Revolution», he stressed.

That was when the first concept of the Militia emerged, among the projects to be promoted by Commander Chávez for the defense of the nation, he said.

«It was the response against new threats, for which it was necessary to give it organization and body», which represented for the FANB «the challenge and the great task of specifying, organizing and institutionalizing this potential for the defense of the homeland.»

That is why, then, a process of changes in the legal framework begins, which began in 2005 with the first reform of the Organic Law of the FANB «to strengthen the military power of the nation,» said Padrino López.
