The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, supported on Saturday the proposal of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) to call for parliamentary elections this year and thus solve the situation that exists within the Legislative Power, which is in contempt since 2016
«The National Constituent Assembly has in its agenda the evaluation to call an advance of parliamentary elections this year. I agree that the Legislative Power of the country should be relegitimized, and that the people should decide», said the Head of State from the Bolivar avenue in Caracas, where the Venezuelan people celebrated the first 20 years of the Bolivarian Revolution.
Therefore, he proposed the ANC to call on the population to a national consultation in Open Bolivarian Cabildos to know their response to this proposal.
Similarly, he reaffirmed his willingness to consult this parliamentary initiative in a dialogue with the Venezuelan opposition: «We can make it consensual in a dialogue table with the opposition, if you want, then we want», he said.
On January 21, the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) declared null and void the directive of the National Assembly, sworn on January 5 of this year.
In this regard, the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ emphasized that the National Assembly does not have a valid Board of Directors, incurring «the unrightful directive» elected on January 5, 2019 (as well as those who were unconstitutionally «designated» during 2017 and 2018), in usurpation of authority, for which all their acts are null, in accordance with the provisions of Article 138 of the Constitution.
