Venezuela presents evidences of violation of its sovereignty by Guyana

The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, presented evidences of the violation of Venezuelan sovereignty by Guyanese seismic vessels. The incident occurred in December 2018, when the Government of Guyana ventured into the territorial waters of Venezuela: “These vessels were in jurisdictional waters of Venezuela without any permission (…) Venezuela has been defending its rights over the Essequibo”.
From Miraflores Palace, in a press conference offered to denounce the actions by the government of Guyana, in turn, she explained that “these evidences will be consigned to the United Nations for this unusual provocation by the Government of Guyana (…) They only specified that the Government of Guyana had authorized them”.
Later she stressed that the evidences presented demonstrate the lies that have been issued. The ship was not approached, but it would have been done according to international maritime laws, if they remained in Venezuelan territory:
“The ships acknowledged that they had invaded our territory. Upon its retiring, the ship was not boarded, which belies the Government of Guyana”, said the vice president. She also stressed that “Venezuela will defend itself against any provocation or threat.”
The vice president made it clear that “our message is one of brotherhood and of resorting again to the diplomatic solution (…) we do not negotiate the sacred interests of Venezuela”.
“The Government of Guyana broke with the Geneva Agreement, and denies resorting to the International Court of Justice because this body seeks the welfare of both parties and they do not seek that”, said the vice president.
