Fermín recognizes defeat of Falcón for lack of machinery and rejects sanctions against Venezuela

Claudio Fermín, former campaign chief of the oppositionist Henri Falcón, acknowledged on Wednesday that the defeat in the elections on Sunday, May 20, when were held the elections for President of the Republic and representatives of state legislative councils, was due to a lack of political machinery.

“A great effort was made and they did it for Venezuela, but the truth is the truth, the time was not on our side and we are not enough. We value what we did, but we are not enough, that’s why we have to go after the Venezuelans who had another opinion”, said Fermín during a press conference broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión.

He also rejected the sanctions recently imposed by the Government of Donald Trump against Venezuela, in which it prohibits any citizen, institution or company of that North American nation from acquiring Venezuelan debt or assets and property belonging to the Government of Venezuela in the United States; this includes the investments of Petróleos de Venezuela S.A (PDVSA), the country’s main company.

“We will not allow anything that attempts against Venezuela”, said the leader, who also pointed out that the political impasses between the two nations should not affect the stability of the country and the peace of Venezuelans.

“We understand Venezuela. Venezuela does not have to be hurt, it does not have to be injured”, said Fermín.
