The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, affirmed on Tuesday that with the call for the activation of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), a year ago: «The path of peace has arrived».
During a massive meeting in El Calvario, (downtown) Caracas, in commemoration of the International Workers Day, the Head of State recalled the acts of violence that had put Venezuelans in distress for several months during 2017, in an attempt by the national and international right wing to overthrow the legitimate Government, and by those who used violence as a weapon of war against the people.
«A year ago, I called to activate the Constituent Power that would lead us towards peace. A year ago we were amidst the violence, amidst the guarimba (riots). A lot of pain, people were burned alive. And I told the people in the midst of pain and uncertainty: There is a path to peace. Accompany me on that path and I promise you that we will conquer peace. You had confidence and without the support of the workers it would have been impossible to activate the constituent process», recalled the National President.
He indicated that on Sunday July 30, 2017: «Was a blessed day for the Homeland. And the people against wind, and tide, against the guarimbas, against bullets and barricades, threw themselves into the streets and activated the Originary Constituent Power».
He stressed that with the arrival of the ANC, a new page of the history of Venezuela was written: «As I told you a year ago, peace came with the Constituent Assembly. We came out to win and we won».
In that sense, he called for maintaining the confidence of the people in his word and in his capacity as President of the Republic to overcome the economic war that is kept by stateless business sectors, and which affects the economy of the Venezuelan families.
«I come to tell you today, just like a year ago, in three weeks, on Sunday, May 20, it will be a blessed Sunday. I ask you to go out and vote to open up to the Homeland the horizons of recovery, economic prosperity and economic victory», he stressed.
