TSJ ratifies prohibition of double militancy in political parties

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) confirmed on Thursday that the double militancy in political parties is forbidden, so the highest court in the country ordered the National Electoral Council (CNE) to partially annul the process of validation of the parties called for this January 27 and 28.

For this purpose, the Judicial Power ordered the CNE to exclude the Democratic Unity Board (MUD) from the renewal process, since the conformation of this group is due to the conformation of several political organizations already renewed and others pending renewal, which is contrary to the device number 4 of sentence n ° 1 of January 5, 2016 and to article 32 of the Law of Political Parties, Public Meetings and Manifestations.

Also, the ruling – published on the web portal of the TSJ – highlights that the measure seeks to “safeguard the rights to political participation through organizations legally and legitimately constituted for that purpose, for which it has already set the parameters of the previous process of validation of political organizations “.
