Venezuela delivers protest note to 11 Chancellors of the EU

“Since April 19, 1810, Venezuela is a free and independent country, especially from the European imperialism and colonialism”, with these words the Chancellor of the Republic, Jorge Arreaza, began the meeting with representatives of diplomatic delegations of the European Union in the country.

In the meeting, which took place this Wednesday at the Yellow House “Antonio José de Sucre”, headquarters of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, authorities of the Bolivarian Government delivered a note of protest to the 11 Chancellors of the EU accredited in the country after the sanctions imposed against seven high Venezuelan officials.

In a brief statement to the press, prior to the start of the meeting, Arreaza, who was in the company of the first deputy minister for Europe, Iván Gil, commented to those present that from one of the balconies of the Yellow House, which in times of the colony served as the office of the Spanish General Captain, Vicente Emparan, was held the first great election in Venezuela.

“Emparan”, he continued, “Asked the people if they wanted European colonialism in Venezuela, the Spanish one in particular, to continue, and the people dismissed him without hesitation, they asked him to leave and he had to leave, and thus started a process that ended with Carabobo (battle) in 1821”.

Arreaza pointed out that in the actions of some European countries, are still in force the pretensions of colonial domination, whose wounds represent bad memories in the history of the peoples of Venezuela and Latin America.
