Venezuelan opposition did not attended dialogue in the Dominican Republic

The Chancellor of the Dominican Republic, Miguel Vargas, informed that in the next few days a new meeting date will be announced between representatives of the Venezuelan Government and the opposition, as part of the dialogue between both parties.

Vargas, explained that after meetings that should have been with the interested parties, they were carried out in the same way but to set a new date for a new meeting “we have held meetings all day following what should have been working meetings among all the parties, but motivated by several reasons, the opposition delegation did not attended the meeting, for that reason we have committed to set another date, here in the Dominican Republic in the interest of a peaceful, democratic and stable option”, he concluded.

For his part, former President José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero, exhorted the opposition and National Government´s delegations not to faint in what is the process of dialogue: “In search of an agreement of coexistence, peace and democracy, so necessary, the opposition did not attend”, he stressed.

Zapatero, explained that the collaborators who have been for a long time in this process, have a duty, a commitment, that duty is to understand that they can live in peace, without rancor and without hatred, “We have a duty, a commitment: that duty is to understand that coexistence can only be achieved in Venezuela articulated from the agreement (…) We are not throwing in the towel, the towel is ours and of those of us who believe in peace. I ask that in that conviction we be accompanied by all those who, in good faith, desire the best for the future of Venezuela”, he said.

The former Spanish president declared that: “The situation in Venezuela demands maximum responsibility, I appeal to the international community, I appeal to all Governments, I appeal to the European Union, so that they live up to the responsibility they represent and help the Government and the opposition reach an agreement”, said Zapatero.

The Spanish politician mentioned the need that Venezuela has to achieve a coexistence agreement: “It is needed by that people that generates so much affection in the world. Latin America needs it, and of course we are going to persevere, we are going to try in the shortest time possible so that there is a meeting, dialogue, understanding and dialogue. A great dialogue for Venezuela”.

“The future of Venezuela’s relations, peace (…) is at stake, that’s why I appeal to the Government and the opposition to assume that responsibility”, and finally he thanked the Government of the Dominican Republic for its efforts to consolidate peace in Venezuela.
