Venezuela categorically rejects statement from US State Department Spokesman

The Bolivarian Government repudiated on Saturday the statement of the Spokeswoman of the Department of State, Heather Nauert, who insists on justifying, under the excuse of supposed humanitarian aid, an intervention in Venezuelan territory.

Through a statement, the Executive urges the authorities of the United States to deal with a large segment of its population that lives in critical situation in terms of health, food and access to resources.

“We demand again, the end of the political and economic harassment, as well as the threats to the security and integrity of the country that the US Government has presented with its unilateral, illegal, illegitimate sanctions and in violation of the Charter of the United Nations, the Charter of the OAS and international law”, adds the text.

“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the cynical statement of the Spokesman of the State Department who, irresponsibly, mocks the international community by offering humanitarian aid to Venezuela while at the same time persisting with its attempts to destabilize, and lashes out with economic sanctions against Venezuela.

It is also surprising that the Government of the United States is in a position to offer food and other emergency aid to Venezuela when, for weeks now, it has not been able to fully attend the crisis that the recent hurricane season left in Puerto Rico.

We urge the Government of the United States to improve its efforts to respond to the critical conditions facing a large segment of its population: 27 million people do not have health insurance, 21% of children live in poverty, 36, 5% of adults suffer from obesity, 32 million people can not read, 41 million people – more than the entire population of Venezuela – suffer from hunger, more than 125 million Americans live in 204 counties where they are exposed to levels of harmful pollution to health, 18 million people have been exposed to water contaminated by lead and other substances – as in the case of the population of Flint, which came to be reported to the United Nations -, among others.

We demand again, the end of the political and economic harassment, as well as the threats to the security and integrity of the country that the US government has presented with its unilateral, illegal, illegitimate sanctions and in violation of the Charter of the United Nations, the Charter of the OAS and international law.

The Venezuelan people have chosen their destiny freely and sovereignly and will not accept any blackmail or threat from any government. The destiny of Venezuela is decided by the Venezuelans in peace and democracy, from Venezuela and not from Washington. ”
