Maduro: Venezuela has to be one of the great tourist destinations in the world

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted on Sunday that the National Government aims to make Venezuela a tourist power, as part of its political and economic independence.

During the closure of the International Tourism Fair of Venezuela (FITVEN) 2017, the National President highlighted that tourism is a powerful engine of the world economy, occupying 10% of the world’s gross domestic product. For this, “Venezuela has to be one of the great tourist destinations in the world,” he said.

He noted that Venezuela had never promoted tourism as a source of income, however, from the efforts made by the National Government to recover the economy, domestic tourism has registered a favorable growth in recent months.

“Venezuela has been developing an increasingly powerful national tourism market that has recorded significant numbers on vacation dates. It is impressive how the levels of national tourist mobility rise, at the carnival holidays, for example”, he said.

He insisted that, based on these results, 2018 will be a year to strengthen the services linked to this sector of the Venezuelan economy.

“We have to develop increasingly better ground, air, water transportation services, hotels, gastronomy. Everything we do for our people we are doing for the development of tourism as a motor, to attract national tourists and also foreign exchange for the development of the economic life of the country”, he said.

He stressed that in order to make tourism in Venezuela a source of wealth, services and a generator of employment, unity is necessary, especially with national and international companies in the country’s tourism sector.

“We need a united country at work, a country united with a single dream, a single hope: growth, development, happiness. That is why I call on you, sectors of Venezuelan and international tourism that are in our country, we are going to row all at the same pace”, he emphasized.
