The Ombudsman, Tareck William Saab, recalled that in December of 2015 he participated in a meeting with the Attorney General and the Comptroller General of the Republic to discuss the pre-selection of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).
“I must say that in the archives and in the testimony of that meeting … to discuss the pre-selection of citizens Magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice, the citizen Prosecutor General of the Republic did not issued an opinion against, not orally nor in writing”, said Saab.
He recalled that in the file of such a meeting there was no vote against any of the officials convened to discuss the issue of the magistrates of the highest court of the Republic.
The Ombudsman welcomed the action of recognition to the Supreme Court of Justice by the Attorney General of the Republic, Luisa Ortega Díaz, when going to this court to request interpretation resources, thus acknowledging the legality of this institution.
During a telephone call with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Saab stressed that while some sectors give opinion on that there is allegedly a dissolution of powers in Venezuela, Ortega Díaz’s behavior fosters the strength of the national democracy, which promotes the legitimacy of the Supreme Court of Justice and the entire Judiciary Power.
He stressed that only the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ has the power to respond to the Attorney General of the Republic regarding the appeal filed on the issue of legality of the process for a National Constituent Assembly as it has done on other occasions.
