The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, urged this Thursday the people of the United States to raise the flags of peace and reject interventionist plans against his country. From the Mariche Metro Cable station (in Eastern Caracas), the Head of State delivered a direct message to Americans of goodwill:
“The people of the United States must raise its powerful voice and say NO! to warmongering plans, NO! to a war in South America, NO! to a regime change, NO! to blood for oil,” Maduro declared emphatically. He added that these plans seek to replace the Venezuelan democratic republican regime with a colonial, slavery one.
In his remarks, the Venezuelan president emphasized that Venezuela is an empowered people that only seeks to live in peace: “What we ask is that no one messes with us! This is not a time of colonialism nor for trading away our freedom as the people we are,” he affirmed during his address.
As a symbol of resistance and sovereignty, Maduro displayed the original flag of the Gran Colombia designed by Simón Bolívar, the Liberator, in 1824. He explained that this flag was given to the Hussar battalion that played a key role in the Battle of Ayacucho, breaking the power of the Spanish imperial army.
The president described the current moment as a “stellar time” where great historical projects are resurfacing. “That original project approved 206 years ago is alive in the ordinary men and women, more alive than the oligarchies believe,” asserted Maduro.
Finally, the head of state concluded his speech by highlighting the unity of the Venezuelan people: “We are liberators… and this image we have here is powerful, the perfect popular-military-police union.” He thus reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to its sovereignty and the fight against any form of foreign intervention.
