The President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, delivered this Wednesday to the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, an Agreement of Repudiation. The document, approved with the unanimous vote of the 275 deputies including the opposition bloc, rejects the recent statements by the United States government regarding Venezuela.
According to what was reported at the handover ceremony, Parliamentarian Rodríguez conveyed to the National Dignitary that millions of Venezuelans took to the streets in a «true unanimous outcry of indignation» to repudiate the imperial aggressions, in a massive popular mobilization that supported the action of the Legislative Branch.
In accordance with what was stated by the highest authority of Parliament, the statements by the U.S. government pursued a clear objective: «to seize Venezuela’s wealth, to appropriate and steal the oil and gold,» even going so far as to claim that Venezuelan territory belonged to them. Parliamentarian Rodríguez emphasized the illegitimacy of these claims.
During the parliamentary deliberation, as reported by the President of the National Assembly, it was established that the national oil industry was built by Venezuelan hands. This historical fact refutes any supposed external right over the country’s energy resources.
President Nicolás Maduro, upon receiving the document, congratulated the work carried out by the National Assembly. He stressed that all the deputies, without exception, repudiated the statements that seek to strip Venezuela of its natural resources. He also announced that the Agreement will be presented in the coming days to the National Council for Peace and Sovereignty for follow-up:
«I congratulate you, truly, we are within our law, we are on our land, we are within our rights, and we are defending the most sacred thing a country has,» manifested President Maduro.
In conclusion, the Head of State referred to regional support and the internal division in the United States. He pointed out that the vast majority of the American population rejects military intervention and that the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean are raising their voices against the threats, establishing a position of continental unity in the face of the current situation.
